However, be aware that with advancing capabilities of AI (artificial intelligence), it can be difficult if not impossible to detect if the person you are speaking to is a real human or an AI, even via a video call, no matter how convincing it seems. This is why it's highly recommended to follow our guidelines here.

  • Requests money or financial assistance
  • Claims to be traveling or working overseas and needs help
  • Refuses to video chat or meet in person
  • Avoids answering personal questions
  • Rushes into declaring serious feelings (commonly known as "love bombing")
  • Shares inconsistent information about themselves

Meeting Safely in Person

Before the Date

  • Take time to get to know the person through messages
  • Share your date plans with a trusted friend
  • Choose a public meeting place
  • Plan your own transportation
  • Ensure your phone is fully charged

During the Date

  • Meet in a busy, public location
  • Stay in populated areas
  • Stay sober and alert, be cautious consuming alcohol on a first date (we recommend against it)
  • If drinking, keep your drink in sight at all times (drink spiking is common worldwide)
  • Trust your instincts
  • Maintain access to your transportation
