Staying Safe While Dating Online
Online Safety Essentials
Protect Your Identity
Keep your personal information private while getting to know someone. Never share:
- Home or work addresses
- Financial information or bank details
- Social security number or government IDs
- Daily routines and schedules
- Names and details of family members
- Access to your social media accounts
Stay on Our Platform
Keep communications within our platform until you're ready to meet. Our safety systems can help protect you while you chat here, but we can't help once conversations move elsewhere. Be cautious of users who insist on moving to other platforms immediately.
If moving to another platform, we encourage you to verify the person's identity via video chat. However, be aware that with advancing capabilities of AI (artificial intelligence), it can be difficult if not impossible to detect if the person you are speaking to is a real human or an AI, even via a video call, no matter how convincing it seems. This is why it's highly recommended to follow our guidelines here.
Watch for Red Flags
Be alert if someone:
- Requests money or financial assistance
- Claims to be traveling or working overseas and needs help
- Refuses to video chat or meet in person
- Avoids answering personal questions
- Rushes into declaring serious feelings (commonly known as "love bombing")
- Shares inconsistent information about themselves
